Zillow
My daughter is looking at houses. On Zillow. The Pinterest of Real Estate. I read today that the Fed is poised to lower mortgage interest rates, and buyers are ready to pounce. My daughter is ready to pounce. She’s been looking on Zillow for about a month now, and she sends me links to the … Continue reading Zillow
Don’t Assume
This new development made me think a lot about how when you get old, people treat you differently. You even treat yourself differently, especially when it comes to self-improvement and self-renovation projects.
Embracing Structure: How I Overcame Boredom and Boosted Productivity
I wish I were more free-wheeling and spontaneous, a creature of whimsy, driven by synchronicity and intuition rather than the Pomodoro technique. In my psychology, I want to be what BoHo Chic is in fashion—all flowy skirts, strappy sandals,,and diaphanous scarves— the Anthropologie aesthetic.
Inspired By In August 2024
I am bored. This feels shameful to admit. My mother always said, “Only the boring are bored,” whenever I complained of boredom as a kid. It was a cut. This week, I’m writing from Rehoboth Beach, DE, where my family rents condos every year for the last week in July. My daughter and grandkids fly in from Oregon. “It’s a tradition,” said the 10-year-old. We joke about how it’s like a job at this point. We have to get things DONE. Check boxes. Do … Continue reading Rehoboth Beach Week: 2024 Edition
Enough With The Flag Waving
I’m sitting here watching the Olympic Women’s Soccer team as they play Zambia, and I want the US team to win, but not in a flag-wavy way. In a human way. I’m not a flag-waving American. I am just a human who happened to be born in the US. Don’t get me wrong; there are … Continue reading Enough With The Flag Waving
