THINKING ABOUT:
Ugh. Too much Trump, Elon, and the so-called world. I keep thinking that if I stumbled upon a portal that would whoosh me into the future, I wouldn’t go. No way. Nuh uh.
I unsubscribed from The Washington Post this morning over David Shipley’s resignation after Jeff Bezos’ instituted his new policy for the Opinion Section. I should have unsubscribed after he didn’t endorse Kamala. At that time, he claimed newspapers shouldn’t weigh in on candidates but should be neutral and unbiased. And now this. Which is the opposite of that. The hypocrisy is head-spinning.
READING
Finished The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley, then jumped right into Beautyland by Marie-Helene Bertino. Both of them are kind of soft-core sci-fi. One is about people from the past finding a portal into the Now Times, which is what made me think I would never want to be sucked into the future, but I may want to go back to the past, just a little. Maybe to the time after computers and email, but before the iPhone. Yeah. Things were better then. More human.

Beautyland was about a girl who believes she’s an alien and she can communicate with her home planet via an old fax machine she finds in a thrift store. Really good.

I’m currently reading Something In The Woods Loves You by Jarod K. Anderson. It’s making me feel kinda the same way I felt when I read Braiding Sweetgrass. Like nature will cure us if we let her. It makes me want to go for long walks in the woods, and not think about all the things.

GRATEFUL FOR
The few days the temps got above freezing this week, and the sun’s appearance. Also, robins have been sighted. And the ice is finally melting. And we turn clocks ahead in 9 days. And the studio turns 21 on March 1st.

EATING AND DRINKING
I’ve been on a food jag for quite some time—at least since fall. Every day, I dice up two Honeycrisp apples, mix in Fage 5% Greek yogurt, and add a teaspoon of Manuka honey. This is my breakfast, which I eat with gusto around 11 a.m.
G’s been making my AG1 in the morning, and since it’s already made, I drink it. I don’t love it, but I drink it because it’s good for me.
I am bored with food, but I think spring’s arrival will help. This afternoon, I was eyeing my VitaMix. It might be time for the juicer to make an appearance as well. And the sprouting jar.
WATCHING
Emily and her friend are on a mission to watch all the Oscar-nominated films before the Academy Awards this Sunday night. I’ve only seen A Real Pain with Kiernan Culkin, who was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
G and I tried to watch Flow one night (Nominated for Best Animated Feature), but Rookie was having NONE OF IT. It’s about a cat and a yellow lab. Rookie loses her freakin’ mind when animals appear on TV. So that was a no.
I don’t have the bandwidth for movies these days. I can only handle a 30-minute episode of a series, preferably something mind-numbingly stupid but sociologically interesting. Survivor is like Shakespeare in this category. Right now, I’m watching Love is Blind. This isn’t Shakespeare, but the aspect that intrigues me is trying to predict which couples will make it. And why. My predictions are always WAY OFF. It’s disturbing, actually. I blame the editing.
SUBSTACK UPDATE
Nothing to see here. I’ve decided to do the occasional update here, but there will be no granular play-by-play of how I do it. The name is going to be Meatloaf Yoga. I’m playing with this as the one-line description of what it’s about: A small-town yoga teacher tries to apply lessons learned on the mat to her everyday life. (17 words) How’s that sound? I dunno. Is that what I do??
Okay, so that’s how February rolled. Tomorrow is February 28th, the first economic boycott, and in addition to not buying anything, I’m not engaging with social media at all. I will probably stay off all devices tomorrow. Digital Sabbath. I need it.

Hope you are doing and being and finding pockets of happiness here and there.
Carry on.
Love, Kath
