I just returned from a short family vacation with G’s family. Not all of them, just eight of us in a big house on a lake in Virginia. The house had kayaks, but we brought a SUP and some blow-up floating things. G rented a pontoon boat so she could whip the kids around the … Continue reading Do you need an Adventure, an Experience, or a Vacation?

Learning To Love Reality.
Macro of a perfect eye The visit to my retina specialist yesterday was disappointing. The film over my left eye and the large twig-like floater will have to resolve on their own—or not—no YAG laser procedure for me. When I asked about YAG as a possibility, my doctor recoiled, “God, no! Do not do that! … Continue reading Learning To Love Reality.
Today’s Verdict
For the first time since 2016, I felt a shared reality with the people on this jury—people who had the intelligence to analyze evidence, the power to convict, and the courage to do so—every single one of them.

In fact, every time I stepped in front of a canvas, I heard Sam Harris … Continue reading Rothko Exhibit. Paris. 2024
For The Win In Rehoboth Beach
I’m writing this post from my condo in Rehoboth Beach, DE. My family from Oregon is here, and so are the Bidens. It’sapparently the place to be the first week of August. My granddaughter has been killing it playing Muffin Pan Mania, a boardwalk game where you roll whiffle balls toward a grid of depressions … Continue reading For The Win In Rehoboth Beach
Inspired By In July
I am also inspired but more amused by a genre of Instagram content creators who do videos about cleaning since that’s what I have been doing for over a month. A guy irons his sheets on the bed, then spritzes his pillows. He is magnificent.
