November 5: Learning My Video Camera

I’m using a new productivity tool these days called Trello.

I created a number of boards and lists on Trello the other day to help keep track of all the things I want to do. Cal Newport uses this tool, so I’m predisposed to give it an earnest try.

But this is NaNoWriMo month, so that’s the project I have to prioritize.

That being said, I’m still committed to putting up a weekly yoga class on my site. Today I started editing some footage of a class I shot last week, and it was a perfect mess.

There is so much I need to learn about my camera. I have just the the most basic idea of what it can do and how it works.

So I have committed to playing around with it regularly, finding out about it, reading the manual, figuring out how to take it off Auto and use the Manual settings.

But the only way I’m going to get better at my camera is to keep playing with it. The only way I’m going to get better is to keep making a mess and keep learning how to clean it up.

Today I made a little video in which I talked about just this. When I looked at the footage, all I could see was my wrinkles and how old and crappy I looked (admittedly without makeup and very little concern with lighting and angles.)

I really hate how I look in this video but I’m going to post it because I want to show my work. I want to have a trail of videos that I can look back on to track my progress. I want this to be like the “Before” picture in the makeover.
