My Current Internet Kink

Bedscapes. Sheets, pillows, blankets, sometimes even towels.

I’m following a guy who teaches you how to make your bed.

The right way.

The proper way.

The most aesthetically pleasing way.

I used to make beds as a candy striper. I can fold a mean hospital corner. But until this Instagram guy, I never gave much thought to how I make my bed. I just do it, figuring that fact alone will get me into heaven.

But I am thinking about it now. (And lusting after linen sheets.) This Instagram guy has picky aesthetics and is insufferably right about everything bedscapes.

And I must say, I am liking my bed so much more now that I’m making it his way.

I used to fold my top sheet under the pillows and pull everything else up over the pillows: the comforter and the bedspread.

Now, beginning with the top layer, I fold everything back 40 inches.

Then he says you need 4 pillows— 2 stacks of 2. And in the gap between the pillows and the bedding, you put a lumbar pillow.

That’s it.

Check him out on Instagram. He’s @louiburke

I’ve been following this template, and I think my bed looks so much more open and inviting now.

Before, it looked suffocated by the bedspread. The trouble is, it might be too inviting now. It keeps whispering to me to lie down and read.

Reading

One of the perks of living the I Don’t Care Anymore lifestyle is that I pay very little attention to the dystopian reality called News, which frees up more time for books.

Recently titles and my Micro-Reviews:

Project Hail Mary. 5 stars. Never thought I would like sci-fi.

Yesteryear. 4 stars. I would have given it 5 except for the ending.

Margo’s Got Money Problems. 4 stars. Cute. Audio. (Also a Netflix series.) Good for the car.

The Death of Ivan Ilyich. 5 stars. Bookgroup pick. Tolstoy, what can I say?

Mother Mary Comes to Me. 5 stars. Audio. The author reads it. Perfection.

Whistler. 5 stars. How does Patchett do it?

Currently reading:

Dirtbag Billionaire (my insomnia book)

The Calamity Club.   Audio. I am enjoying it a lot.

The Things We Never Say.   Too early to tell.

Project:   Read 50 Books This Year. Current Score: 21/50. 3 books behind.

Home Stuff.

I am trying to master the mower. I’ve been on it twice so far. I still prefer the push mower. It makes me feel closer to the grass.

Riding the lawn tractor, I feel like Lord of the Lawn, aloof and estranged from my subjects.

Health Stuff

I have cortisol in my cross-hairs. I read a Substack article the other day that said even if you don’t feel stressed, cortisol could still be spiking in your bloodstream, causing all sorts of havoc.

https://substack.com/home/post/p-201957681

The article ticked off 10 things that could be causing cortisol spikes, and I have, or do, 8 of them.

The 10 are:

  • Skipping breakfast or eating too late
  • Blood sugar crashes
  • Chronic under-eating
  • Over-exercising without recovery
  • Fasted intense exercise
  • Sleep deprivation
  • Caffeine on an empty stomach
  • Gut inflammation and intestinal permeability
  • Chronic dehydration
  • Blue light and circadian interruption

The only 2 I don’t do are “fasted intense exercise” and “over-exercising without recovery.”

I’m trying to change my habits. But it’s been rough.

I won’t go into the details now, but watch for more posts about this situation as I struggle.

I am sad that June is coming to an end.

Dammit, summer always flies. Slow down!
