Monthly Check-In: February

Inspired by: Hmmm… People on YouTube, particularly Ali Abdaal who is quite engaging and talks about a lot of stuff YouTube-related like how to get started, tips and tricks for filming, etc.

Watching: The Wilds, finished Red Oaks (sniff), we watched Hamilton a few weeks ago on Disney Plus, Uncle Frank, This is Us. I peek at Rachel Maddow’s A- block most nights, but often shut it off and go to bed and read instead.

Reading: Finished Here for It for book group, which was fun. I’m dipping into Naval’s Almanack for daily wisdom. I just finished The Art of Impossible by Steven Kotler which was incredible. My night book currently is Fall , or Dodge in Hell by Neal Stephenson, and my morning book The Overstory by Richard Powers, both of which are blowing my mind, for very different reasons. Also: I love my new Kindle. It’s making reading in bed so much easier, especially when some of these books I’m reading are quite hefty.

Listening to: Tim Ferriss’ interview with Joyce Carol Oates. I am not in the mood for politics anymore, so I’ve cut out all of that. I’m not really listening to too much these days. Just silence and my tinnitus.

Dreamlife: Nothing I can remember. I’m back to shitty sleep again.

Researching: I’ve been using the productivity app Trello for awhile, but have been reading and hearing (on YouTube) good things about Notion, so I’m currently learning it. It’s more feature-packed but a bit harder to learn. I want to get better at making videos so I’ve been watching YouTube tutorials about everything from making thumbnails to finding a niche. I can’t get enough of this stuff at the moment.

Eating and Drinking: Thank god for Green Chef, that’s all I can say. I am feeling very uninspired in the kitchen these days. This is partly because I am doing all grocery shopping via Insta-Cart which is making me feel sad and uninspired about food. My afternoon ritual is to make myself a matcha latte with Pique Sun Goddess matcha, frothed oat milk and a bit of manuka honey. I am drinking wine more or less every night, which has to stop. Oh, and last week I was I obsessed with peanut M&Ms, which was so random. I don’t eat candy. I don’t know what this was about, but thankfully it’s over.

Grateful for: That I got my first Covid vaccine and it won’t be long before I’ll get my second one. For as much as I bitch and moan about things, I am really grateful for everything in my life, which is a pretty wondrous thing.
