Spooky Stuff

Do you know where you were, what you were doing, thinking and feeling on this day last year?

How about on this day 5 years ago?  How about 10 years ago (1998)?

20 years ago (1988)?

I do.  I know exactly what I was doing thinking and feeling on October 21st 2008, 2004, 1999, and 1989.

I could tell you what I was doing, thinking and feeling on this day in 1972, 1979, and 1981 too.

That’s because in 1972 I started journaling.

And right now, sitting in a large Rubbermaid container in my basement, are all those journals.  Each notebook has on its cover the starting and ending dates for the entries, and in parentheses how many months that book spans.

The thing is though, I never am tempted to go and re-read them.  Never.  In fact, the thought of re-reading them gives me the willies.

I was thinking about Halloween today and you know what?  If I really wanted to scare the living daylights out of myself, I would  take those notebooks out and stack them on the porch next to the pumpkin and the  plastic skeleton and make myself read them.

I’m a small town yoga teacher who says motherfucker a lot. I hate anything woo. I’m into neuroscience. And facts. I’ll lead the chanting of “om” sometimes, but it makes me feel awkward. I want to access flow states. As far as yoga helps me do that, I’m into it. Dopamine is my fave neurotransmitter. Don’t tell anyone I told you this.
